Global IB Curriculum Development & IB Intervention Research Alliance
The recent AIB UKI Conference in Glasgow urges actions on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 "decent work and economic growth". For those who were there to witness the promise of IB research for Sustainable Development, you must have been energised. Now, let’s walk the talk. The Mainstreaming Impact in International Business (MIIB) Initiative of the AIB has two programmes for you, to generate impact and advance your career.
Programme 1: Global IB Curriculum Development
Demonstrate your contributions to SDGs, specifically SDG 8, by embedding Principles of Sustainable Business into the modules and programmes of your institutions.
We are living in a VUCA, unsustainable world. Firms must develop strategies to cope and thrive. Society must be entrepreneurial. Generations of decisionmakers, managers, workers, and consumers have graduated from your classrooms. They have become aware of the Challenges, but have not been taught sufficiently to generate solutions and to gain sustainability skills. Human development has never been more important in the classroom. Your next student cohort can be well-trained changemakers, inspired by you.
The textbook Principles of Sustainable Business - Frameworks for corporate action on the SDGs by Rob van Tulder and Eveline van Mil provides systemic, strategic and operational principles about “how to” questions that companies (and business schools) are faced with when stepping-up the pace of implementing actionable SDGs. Building upon decades of research and classroom innovation, these principles are proven to be effective. You can use them to empower future decisionmakers to explore and make the right decisions in firm strategy, functional operations, consultancy, and policymaking.
MIIB’s plan to launch “Global IB Curriculum Development” encompasses three elements:
- an impact and reputation building scholar group adopting Principles of Sustainable Business and own related research in teaching,
- a poster competition for your students to showcase their SDGs skills and creativity using the Principles of Sustainable Business,
- a forum to enhance course design by discussing well established teaching formulae and skill development methods.
Please watch this clip to see examples of incorporating Principles of Sustainable International Business into programme and module designs.
Programme 2: An Intervention Research Alliance, “International Business Intervention for SDGs”.
A browse of the Principles of Sustainable Business will reveal an array of opportunities for research that can have real-world impact built in from inception. Working together, we can be each other’s sounding board, get faster and impact-driven feedback, and publish more and better intervention research; STEM subject publications are not short of such good examples. The Alliance first aims to develop You!
Overcoming SDGs challenges by 2030 is tough and beyond 2030 we will still have remaining challenges to overcome. Large-scale collaborations may be exactly what is needed! The Alliance, through inclusion and partnership, will be an enabler of consequential research. MIIB’s growing number of advocates, with their portfolio of expertise, are using IB research to directly steer sustainability transition. If you are interested in joining in and meet our IB intervention research pioneers, please fill in this form.
Together, we can make it!
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Yi Wang, Founder of MIIB
